Our dear patient,
We would like to give you some important instructions so that you can keep your health and comfort at the highest level after the surgical procedure.
Here's what you need to do after surgery:
1. Tampon: Bite the tampon placed in your mouth after the surgery, hold it in that area and carefully remove it after 30 minutes.
2. Ice Application: : Ice should be applied on the first day. Apply ice for 5 minutes and then rest your skin for 5 minutes. Continue applying ice in this manner. This will help reduce swelling.
3. Medications: After removing the tampon, you can drink the prescribed antibiotics and painkillers with water before the drowsiness subsides. However, it is recommended that at least one hour passes after the procedure. If an injection was given to relieve pain and reduce swelling, you will not need to take painkillers on the first day. You can only take the antibiotic. If you have pain the day after the procedure, you can use a maximum of 3 painkiller tablets a day. In this way, you will feel less pain after the procedure. If your pain does not go away even though you use the tablet painkiller as instructed, you can contact us.
4. Mouthwash: Start the mouthwash prescribed to you the day after the procedure and use it regularly three times a day. This will help you maintain your oral hygiene. Also, if possible, gently remove any food residue from the stitches by dipping a cotton cloth in mouthwash solution and gently clean the upper part of the stitches with this cotton cloth. You can use ear cotton for this.
5. Sports: It is not recommended to do sports, swim in the pool or the sea, or take a shower on the day of surgery.
6. Nutrition: You should not eat or drink anything for two hours after the operation. Since the effect of anesthesia does not wear off, you may damage your lips and tongue. The first three days are very important. Avoid hard, hot, grainy, acidic and spicy foods that can increase the risk of bleeding. Particulate foods such as nuts and rice may not be cleaned from the open wound area and may cause pain and infection. Instead, eat soft, room temperature or cooler foods that you can mash with the back of a fork or blend in a blender. Make sure that the food you consume is at room temperature or colder. Take this into consideration, especially when consuming hot drinks such as coffee and tea.
7. Spitting and rinsing the mouth: You should not spit for the first two days, empty the things you cannot swallow from the corner of your mouth and avoid violent shaking movements. Rinsing your mouth, sneezing, or blowing your nose forcefully should not be done under pressure. These actions should be done gently, without applying pressure.
8. Hygiene: You should keep the surgery area clean and make sure that there is no food residue left in the stitches. For this, you can gently clean it using ear cotton.
9. Brushing your teeth: Post-operative oral hygiene is very important. Therefore, tooth brushing can be done one day after the operation. You do not need to brush your teeth on the day of surgery. Brushing should be done with a sweeping motion with soft brushes suitable for post-operative use, and the stitches should be brushed with light pressure.
10. Bleeding and Pain: Light bleeding in the form of leakage and feeling the taste and smell of blood are normal for the first three days and a slight pain is expected. These usually occur in the postoperative period. Don't worry, they will decrease over time.
11. Clot (healing tissue): The clot formed in the wound area will direct healing. All preventive treatments are aimed at preserving the clot. Sucking something with a straw, applying pressure, or touching the surgical area with a foreign object may cause rebleeding and delayed healing.
12. Mouth Openness and Swelling: Your mouth opening may decrease for a few days after the surgery. This is a normal condition caused by edema and swelling. Be sure to remain calm during this process and follow your doctor's advice. Swelling on the face may increase in the first three days, but then it begins to decrease. If you notice new swelling starting after the third day, please inform our physician.
13. Subcutaneous Bruises: It is normal to have subcutaneous bleeding and bruises in the operated area, except for the mouth. Over time they will turn purple, green, yellow, brown and disappear in about 18 days.
14. Sleeping Pattern: It is recommended to sleep with two pillows, keeping your head higher than your body, especially for the first three days. In this way, swelling will be less.
15. Alcohol and Smoking: You should not consume alcohol or smoke until the stitches are removed. After the stitches are removed, it is possible to smoke a maximum of five cigarettes or consume alcohol a day. Please pay attention to this until the soft tissue closes.
16. Stitches: The stitches must be removed on the 10th day following the surgery day.
